Ceramic Coating in Warrington

By Alex, Improve Details · Last updated 5 October 2026

Ceramic coating is a nano-ceramic (SiO2) liquid coating that bonds to your car's paintwork, adding a durable hydrophobic layer with deep gloss, UV and chemical resistance, and easier washing. Improve Details applies ceramic coatings at our Lilford Street studio in Warrington after full paint decontamination and machine-polish preparation.

What is ceramic coating?

A ceramic coating — also called a nano-ceramic coating or SiO2 coating — is a liquid polymer coating rich in silicon dioxide that chemically bonds to your car's paintwork. Once cured, it forms a durable, hydrophobic (water-repelling) layer over the clear coat. Think of it as a semi-permanent upgrade to the paint itself: water beads and sheets off, dirt releases more easily when washing, and the finish gains a deep, candy-like gloss.

It also adds meaningful UV resistance — important for preventing fading and oxidation — and chemical resistance against bird droppings, tar, road salt and iron fallout. What it is not is armour: ceramic coating adds protection but it is not a substitute for paint protection film (PPF) against stone chips. We will never tell you otherwise.

Who is ceramic coating for?

Ceramic coating suits you if:

  • You want your car to look glossier and stay cleaner between washes.
  • You've just bought a new car and want to protect the factory finish from day one.
  • You're tired of waxing every few months and want longer-lasting protection.
  • You wash your car yourself and want dirt to release with less effort.
  • You own a black car or dark paint that shows every swirl mark — coating over corrected paint keeps it looking its best.

When NOT to choose ceramic coating

Honesty matters more than a sale. Ceramic coating is the wrong choice if:

  • Stone chips are your main worry. Motorway commuters on the M6/M62 should look at PPF — only a physical film stops chips.
  • Your paint is heavily swirled and you won't correct it first. Coating locks in whatever is underneath. We always recommend the right level of paint correction or machine polishing first.
  • You want scratch-proof paint. No coating makes paint scratch-proof — anyone claiming "9H hardness" as scratch immunity is misleading you.

Our ceramic coating process, step by step

Preparation is most of the job — typically 80% of the time we spend on your car. Here's exactly what happens at our Lilford Street studio in Warrington:

  1. Consultation and inspection. We assess the paint under inspection lighting, discuss what you want from the coating, and agree the level of preparation needed.
  2. Safe wash and decontamination. A careful wash, then iron fallout removal (dissolving embedded brake dust and rail dust), tar removal, and a clay treatment to leave the paint surgically clean.
  3. Machine-polish preparation. We refine the paint with a machine polish — from a single-stage enhancement to multi-stage paint correction — so defects are removed, not sealed in.
  4. Panel wipe / IPA prep. Every panel is wiped down with a panel wipe solution to remove polishing oils, so the coating bonds directly to clean clear coat.
  5. Coating application. The ceramic coating is applied panel by panel in our controlled studio environment, levelled and left to begin curing.
  6. Cure time and handover. The coating needs cure time before it sees water or chemicals — we'll give you exact aftercare instructions for the first days.

What's included

  • Full paint decontamination: iron fallout removal, tar removal and clay treatment
  • Machine-polish preparation matched to your paint's condition
  • Panel wipe / IPA preparation on every coated panel
  • Professional ceramic coating application in a controlled studio
  • Written aftercare guide: the first 7 days and ongoing maintenance washing

Wheel, glass and trim coating may be available — ask when you enquire.

Durability and aftercare

A professionally applied ceramic coating far outlasts any wax or sealant — but how long it performs depends on the coating tier, how the car is used, where it's parked, and crucially how it's washed. Harsh chemicals, automatic brush washes and abrasive techniques shorten the life of any coating.

The first 7 days: keep the car dry and avoid washing, rain and chemicals while the coating cures — we'll confirm the exact window for your coating. Ongoing: wash regularly with pH-neutral shampoo using the two-bucket method, dry with clean microfibre, and avoid automatic car washes. Done right, the coating makes every wash noticeably easier.

Ceramic coating vs PPF vs wax

How ceramic coating compares to the alternatives
Feature Ceramic coatingPPFWax / sealant
Stone-chip protection NoYes — its main jobNo
Hydrophobics ExcellentGoodModerate, fades fast
Gloss Deep, candy-likeDeepens glossWarm, short-lived
Chemical resistance StrongStrongLimited
Longevity Years with proper careYears (film warranty)Weeks to months

Many of our customers combine the two: PPF on the stone-chip zones, ceramic coating over the top for hydrophobics and easier washing.

Ceramic coating pricing

Every car is quoted individually — from £TODO. What affects the cost:

  • Vehicle size — a Fiesta takes less product and time than a Range Rover.
  • Paint condition — heavily swirled paint needs more correction first.
  • Coating tier — different coatings offer different durability.
  • Extras — wheels, glass and trim coating if you want them.

Send photos of your car on WhatsApp (07482 225323) for an accurate figure — it takes a minute and costs nothing.

Makes we see regularly include BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Range Rover, Land Rover, Porsche, Tesla and many more. Listed as illustrative examples only; we are not affiliated with any manufacturer.

Ceramic coating in Warrington — local context

Warrington's position between Manchester and Liverpool means most cars here see serious motorway mileage — the M6, M62 and M56 coat paintwork in road film, tar and iron fallout from brake dust. Add North West rain and winter road salt, and unprotected paint deteriorates quickly. A ceramic coating's chemical resistance and hydrophobic behaviour are genuinely useful here: dirt releases more easily, and the paint is shielded between washes.

We're on Lilford Street in Warrington town centre (WA5 0LE) — easy to reach from Stockton Heath, Lymm, Culcheth, Birchwood, Widnes, St Helens and across the areas we serve.

Ceramic coating FAQs

How long does ceramic coating last?

It depends on the coating tier, how the car is used and how it is washed. A professionally applied coating that is maintained with proper wash methods lasts far longer than a wax or sealant. Ask us about the coating options we offer and their expected durability — exact figures depend on the brand and tier you choose. (TODO: owner to confirm coating brands and durability.)

Is ceramic coating worth it on a new car?

Yes — a new car is the ideal time. Around 95% of new cars arrive with minor paint defects from factory, transport or dealer preparation, so we correct those first, then lock the finish in with a ceramic coating before the car picks up swirl marks from washing.

Does ceramic coating stop stone chips?

No. Ceramic coating adds chemical resistance, UV protection, hydrophobics and gloss, but it is not a substitute for paint protection film against stone chips. If motorway stone chips are your main concern, ask about PPF for the high-impact areas instead — or combine PPF with a ceramic coating on top.

Ceramic coating vs wax vs sealant — what's the difference?

A wax lasts weeks to a few months, a synthetic sealant lasts months, and a professional ceramic coating is a semi-permanent SiO2 layer that bonds to the paint and lasts far longer than either. Ceramic also gives stronger chemical resistance and a deeper, glossier finish.

Can you apply ceramic coating over PPF?

Yes — ceramic coating over PPF is a popular combination. The film handles physical impacts like stone chips while the coating adds hydrophobics, easier washing and extra gloss to the film. (TODO: owner to confirm this combination is offered.)

What preparation is needed before ceramic coating?

Proper preparation is most of the job: a safe wash, iron fallout removal, tar removal and clay treatment to decontaminate the paint, machine polishing to refine the finish, then a panel wipe/IPA wipe-down so the coating bonds directly to clean paint.

How do I look after a ceramic-coated car?

Wash it regularly using the two-bucket method with pH-neutral shampoo, avoid automatic brush car washes, and dry it with clean microfibre towels. The coating makes washing easier — dirt releases with less effort — but harsh chemicals and abrasive washing will still shorten its life.

How much does ceramic coating cost in the UK?

Cost depends on vehicle size, paint condition, how much machine polishing is needed first, and the coating tier you choose. We quote every car individually after seeing it or receiving photos on WhatsApp — message us on 07482 225323 for an accurate figure. (TODO: owner to supply pricing.)
